A welcoming home for fly fishing in Clarens
Ash River Outfitters was founded by Josh Wampach to create a professional and welcoming home for fly fishing in Clarens.
The business brings together guided fishing, carefully selected fly-fishing equipment and responsible access to some of the rivers and waters of the eastern Free State. Its purpose is to help visiting and local anglers experience the area properly, whether they are picking up a fly rod for the first time or returning in search of a particular fish.
Josh's guiding is built around practical local knowledge gained from fishing the Ash River, Caledon River, Little Caledon River and surrounding waters. Every guided experience is adapted to the anglers, the season and the prevailing conditions rather than following a fixed formula.
Ash River Outfitters also aims to build a stronger local fly-fishing community through the shop, personal advice, casting lessons and carefully managed fishing opportunities.

Healthy rivers come first
Healthy rivers and responsible access are central to Ash River Outfitters.
All guided river fishing is strictly catch and release. Fishing locations, techniques and access are managed according to river levels, water temperatures, weather, spawning activity and safe wading conditions.
Clients are expected to respect the fish, the water, private property and all instructions provided by the guide. Fishing may be relocated, postponed or suspended when conditions are unsuitable or when doing so is necessary to protect the fishery.
